Which skip should I hire for a house renovation?

One of the most common reason for hiring a skip is having work done on your home – whether that’s a single-room job like a kitchen installation, or a full house clearance before a move or after a bereavement.

But hiring a skip can seem like a complicated business – what size do you need? How much will it cost? What can you put in it? Read on for everything you need to know about skip hire for domestic renovations…

Choosing the right sized skip for your project?

Here at Skip Hire Network, we’ve got a wide variety of skip sizes to choose from – from little 4-yard skips to enormous 30-yard containers. So which skips are suited to domestic skip hire?

Single-room renovations: if you’re having a single room renovated, such as your kitchen or bathroom, you’re usually best off looking at our 4-yard skips and 6-yard skips. Prices start from just £70.

Multi-room renovations: for more extensive renovations covering a couple of rooms, our 8-yard skips and 14-yard skips may be a better option. Prices start at £120.

House clearances: our 16-yard skips and 20-yard skips are popular choices for house clearances – whether that’s furniture, junk and general waste, or more substantial waste from building work. Prices start at £180.

What can you throw in a domestic skip?

There are some things to remember when it comes to domestic skip hire and what you can – and can’t – chuck in one of our skips. In simple terms, you can throw any household waste into one of our skips as long as it’s not hazardous – that means things like:

• Chemicals
• Fridges and freezers (these contain dangerous substances)
• Paint / paint tins
• Petrol, oil and diesel
• TVs and computer screens
• Electrical and electronic equipment and appliances (anything from toasters to treadmills!)

What about skip hire for landscaping projects?

All of our domestic skips are suitable for landscaping projects – again, the size of the skip you’ll need depends on the scope of the work being carried out.

Landscaping projects, outdoor renovations and garden clearances can throw up a variety of waste – the following items and materials can be disposed of in one of our skips:

• Rubble

• Green waste (dead plants, mown grass etc.)

How long can I keep a domestic skip for?

All of our skips are available on two-week contracts. This should give you enough time for most small domestic projects – but, if you do need skip hire for a longer period, we offer extended skip hire for just an extra £10 per week – great value for all of our skip sizes.
