Frequently asked questions

A 4 yard domestic skip is ideal for small home projects, such as clearing out the garage. If you need more room, such as for a kitchen or bathroom refit, you may benefit from a 6 yard skip. Larger home renovations and building work may need an 8 yard maxi skip.

Domestic skips are suitable for a wide variety of general waste, including old furniture, garden debris, and non-hazardous DIY waste (such as bricks, wallpaper and fence panels). You can also request skips solely for disposing of scrap metal.

Yes, skip hire for domestic waste is very common. Domestic skips are suitable for everything from empty plastic food packaging to glass bottles, cardboard boxes, ceramics, paper products, and even old clothes and toys. Just be careful not to throw away anything containing batteries.

Hazardous materials like medical and biological waste, batteries, solvents, paint, chemicals, electrical appliances, and gas cylinders, cannot go into a domestic skip. These items require specialist disposal to meet environmental and safety regulations. If you have questions about a specific item, contact us and we’ll be happy to advise.

A domestic skip hire permit is usually only required if the skip will need to be placed on a public road or other public land. Skips positioned entirely on private property, such as a driveway, normally do not need council approval.

Our standard domestic skip hire period is up to 14 days, which is included as standard. If you need the skip for longer, additional weeks can be added at £10 + VAT per week, subject to availability.

Once we collect your domestic skip, your waste will be taken to an authorised facility to be sorted according to legislation. Recyclable materials are recovered where possible, with only non-recyclable waste sent for final disposal.

Domestic skip hire costs can vary according to where you live, what size skip you require, and how long you’ll need it for. Our pricing includes delivery, collection, and rubbish disposal, with no hidden fees—just enter your postcode for a free quote!
